Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco star in "Day Shift," a vampire hunting movie. The movie is about a blue collar working dad who wants to provide for his child's happiness. But, his mundane job at the pool in San Fernando Valley serves as a front for hunting and killing Vampires as part of an international Union of vampiric hunters.
It sounds like a fun idea, but can J.J. Perry bring it to life?
Jamie Foxx and a young lady named Vampire are in a crazy action scene that opens "Day Shift". The sequence then turns into a mad fight between the two. This movie has a great deal of fun with rag-doll action scenes. It makes those scenes pop in a different way than many of the action blockbusters or Netflix movies. It's hard to not think about the old adage that "action speaks more than words". But, "Day Shift" has a unique ability to employ both dialogue and action to enhance the story and character development. Jamie Foxx's villain, the vampire, is killed. His partner has a hilarious exchange about how he thought she was going "to turn into a bat, or something". These are the moments that make "Day Shift", a movie unlike any other.
Day Shift may be the worst movie ever made. It's so obvious what they were trying to do, and yet they failed so miserably. It's a poor production with mediocre acting and a stilted dialogue. The plot is also void of any real substance. But somehow, I found myself enjoying it. Maybe it's because it was vampire movies I love, or maybe it is because I just like bad movies. Day Shift was enjoyable. Although it's not a great film, it's still a lot fun. That's all I need from a movie of this quality.
Day Shift was a mixed film. The movie has a lot to offer, including some good action and characters (the brothers and Seth), while the villain is terrible and the characters are (first post) very average. It seemed like there were some scenes missing that had been cut. Bud's neighbor acts like they're friends, even though before the final scene she maybe had 3 minutes of screen time. This makes the characters who are better than others shine even more. It's a fun movie overall, but could have been more.
Snoop Dogg makes this movie well worth it. Snoop Dogg is a favorite of many. He's the definition of cool.
